2025-11-11

ICI hosted an orientation session for new international faculty on September 29th in Meeting Room 604, designed to boost their integration and help them acclimate to the new environment quickly. Deputy Dean Ms. He Dongmei, Associate Dean Prof. Philip Lambert, nine new international teachers, and administrative staff from relevant departments attended the event.

Key topics included an overview of Xiamen University (XMU) and the University for the Creative Arts (UCA, UK), practical guidance on using XMU’s campus facilities and accessing library resources, an introduction to UCA’s HR systems, financial reimbursement processes, and staff welfare policies, as well as essential information on Chinese work permits, residence formalities, and teaching quality standards. These insights aimed to support new international staff in navigating their new environment.

Participants praised the orientation for its rich, practical content and clear structure. “This session helped me better understand the two universities’ educational philosophies and clarified key work requirements,” said one of the participants. “It has laid a solid foundation for my upcoming work here.”

Beyond the formal orientation, ICI organized several integration activities. On November 7th, during XMU’s 60th Student Track and Field Meet and the 22nd Staff Sports Meet, international teacher representatives joined Chinese colleagues and students in vibrant parade contingents, showcasing the unique characteristics of international education and the spirit of unity and collaboration among Chinese and foreign staff and students.

Additionally, visits to Siming Campus and the university history museum were arranged. On a sunny day with a light breeze, the international teachers explored the lush environment of Siming Campus, admiring the shimmering Furong Lake and distinctive Kah Kee-style architecture. At the museum, they delved into precious historical documents, old photographs, and exhibits, gaining insights into XMU’s journey since its founding in 1921 and its enduring commitment to serving the nation through education.

Following the campus tour, the teachers visited characteristic Minnan architecture, experiencing the unique charm of Minnan folk culture firsthand, further enriching their understanding of local traditions.

These initiatives have effectively supported new international faculty in settling in and adapting to their roles, strengthening team cohesion and bringing new vitality to ICI’s mission of fostering talent and advancing educational excellence.
